Re: Oil Paintings

Oil paintings may be done on linen, wood, or canvas. Hide glue is usually used to protect linen, or wood from the oils with several coats of special oil painting primer added on top.
Another option for oil paintings are several coats of acrylic gesso. This is usually present where the oil is applied over a base of acrylic paint.

Sky Line

A Winter Landscape Painting with a view of NYC

A Uniquely Framed Oil Painting

Sky Line This is an oil painting on linen that has been framed in an interesting manner. The old barn/driftwood frame has been covered over fresh hardwood poplar lumber and incorporates elements from the forest floor which has been enclosed by plexiglass. The painting was painted on the edge of a cliff around 1993. It seems as if you are looking out a window or doorway through the edge of the forest. The skyline of Manhattan is visible from the top of the hilltop some 25 miles away. The plain of Bergen New Jersey is located below the mountain between the city and stretches out across the scene. The painting is 36" x 25" and framed it measures 38" square.

The Frog Pond Side A

A Colorful
Finely Detailed Reversible Landscape Oil PaintingA Uniquely Framed Finely Detailed Reversible Oil Painting

The Frog Pond This is a large JET Reversible highest quality oil painting that started out in my studio in 1984-85. The frame was built as an integral part of the artwork and is solid poplar, The 1/2" thick panel is birch hardwood ply and slotted into the frame, then prepared with hide glue and oil painting primer. This heavyweight is then suspended from a set of uprights made from solid oak and prepared in the same manner as above. The painting is bolted with (6) Stainless steel stove bolts, but can be removed from the upright screen arrangement and hung on the wall. Being a true JET Reversible, or Convertible and a unique original concept that I invented four years earlier, the painting can be reversed on a wall, hung from a ceiling, or just rolled around freestanding with it's own matching easel. I worked on this painting for well over 22 years, little by little, and it is probably the most detailed and intricate of any of my artworks to date. The actual painting measure 43.5" x 48.5" framed and measures 25" along the cross pieces x 45.5" wide x 54" high not counting the wheels on the easel. The easel can easily be removed with a wrench. You can separate part of room with it, use it as a dressing screen, or just roll it around your environment.
